Nayef Aguerd may transfer to Al-Ittihad after receiving clearance to do so from West Ham United.
According to Salem Al Kulaib, Nayef Aguerd, a defender for West Ham, has approved a probable permanent transfer to the Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.
Following earlier rumours that his old club Rennes was interested in signing him, the Moroccan defender has given the team his okay, the Saudi Arabian News 24 journalist tweeted. [Foot Mercato, August 21, 2018]
Aguerd will certainly earn more money by moving to Al-Ittihad and would have the chance to play with players like Karim Benzema, Ngolo Kante, and former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho.
The Hammers won’t want to sell.
West Ham has no justification for entertaining any team this summer that wants to sign Aguerd. He is the anchor of their defense, frequently playing with Kurt Zouma, and he routinely puts on outstanding performances that have earned him a London Stadium fan favorite.
The Moroccan has been a pillar in David Moyes’ defense and started the first two games of the season before getting sent off against Chelsea for receiving two yellow cards, which prevented him from playing in the sensational 3-1 victory against Brighton at the Amex.
Despite giving the Saudi Arabian club his blessing for a prospective trade, it appears doubtful that Aguerd will use a transfer request to force a move away from the Hammers. He should be persuaded he is at the correct place by the fact that he played on the team that won the Europa Conference League last season.
As seen by the players who have left Europe so far this summer, it is tough to say no to the sort of pay that is given in Saudi Arabia as well as the chance to play with some famous players.
In other West Ham news, Tim Steidten has arrived in London and the search for a new striker has started.
