As Niels Nkounkou leaves for a medical, Everton will get a financial windfall with the transfer.

Because of the sell-on provision in Niels Nkounkou’s contract, Everton will now receive a financial boost late in the window that might be crucial on the last day of the window.

After spending half of the previous season on loan in Ligue 2 with Saint-Etienne, the young French wing-back only made his exit from Goodison Park permanent for €2.5 million [£2.13 million] at the end of the previous campaign.

The Toffees were reportedly entitled to 30% of the proceeds from a later sale as part of that agreement, according to Foot Mercato on August 22. Eintracht Frankfurt had previously made attempts to sign the 22-year-old for the Bundesliga this summer.

That is now expected to happen when Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport claimed that the two parties had reached a deal on Thursday, August 31, and that Nkounkou was on his way to Germany for his physical.

Hawkins noted that the left-sided player was under contract with the French team through 2026 in his update on the outlet’s website, indicating that his transfer cost should be high.

According to an earlier Foot Mercato report, Saint-Etienne rejected bids of €6 million (£5.13 million) and higher because they demanded €10 million (£8.55 million) in order to permit Nkounkou to depart so quickly.

Frankfurt may not have reached the entire asking amount, but it is probable that they at least needed to get close to it.Given the financial pressure the club has been operating under this summer, that would entail Everton being due a cash boost of roughly £2 million, which is hardly ground-breaking for a Premier League team but could go a long way toward a loan or two before the deadline of 11 p.m. on Friday (1 September).

After signing his star signing, £25 million striker Beto, Sean Dyche is anticipated to continue pursuing inexpensive newcomers on free transfers of temporary deals, so a seven-figure gain from a player who never played a game under him might be extremely significant.
