West Ham have benefited greatly from Alphonse Areola’s return.
West Ham United signed four top-tier new players during the summer transfer window, but Alphonse Areola, who was already at the club, has made a significant difference for us.
Alphonse Areola played the 2021/22 season on loan with West Ham before signing a permanent deal with the club a year later for around £10.5 million (Daily Mail).
During his first two years at the London Stadium, the 30-year-old had to be extremely patient in order to get regular game time, as he was second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski.
However, Moyes gave him a league starting spot at the start of this season, and he hasn’t looked back since.
This season, he has been absolutely outstanding for West Ham, with his best effort coming in our 3-1 win away at Brighton in August.
The French World Cup winner has proven to be one of the club’s most significant players…
West Ham United’s new signing is Alphonse Areola.
When it comes to shot-stopping, the former PSG, Real Madrid, and Fulham man has proven to be on another level than Fabianski this season.
Areola, described as a ‘excellent’ goalkeeper by the Hammers’ official website, has now firmly established himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper.
In just seven Premier League games this season, he has made 32 saves, nine high claims, and three successful punches (Premier League official website).
He is also Who Scored’s highest-rated Premier League goalie thus far this season.
Sure, the additions of James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Mohammed Kudus have strengthened our squad.
But, in my opinion, Alphonse Areola’s absorption into the West Ham first squad has been equally essential.
The 6ft 5in stopper is proving to be an excellent performer for us. The task for him now will be to demonstrate true consistency in his passing and command of his area.
