With only a few days before the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur must act quickly to refresh their team in order to salvage their disastrous season.
Tottenham are currently 15th in the Premier League, and given their injury crisis this season, they may be in greater need of new recruits than any other team in the ‘Big Six.’
Ange Postecoglou admitted no January signings were “imminent” recently, which would have worried Spurs supporters across the globe.
But whispers about the Lilywhites’ interest in Mathys Tel is starting to become louder.
Sources told TBR Football that Tottenham were offered Tel, as were both Arsenal and Manchester United.
Tottenham target Tel hinted at leaving Bayern Munich by waving in the direction of the Allianz Arena faithful after their 3-1 win against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Wednesday — a gesture which will not do much to quieten the noise surrounding the 19-year-old’s immediate future.
Tottenham “want to go big” to sign Mathys Tel
However, Arsenal are readying a bid to sign Tel.
Meanwhile, Tel reportedly eyes a move to Manchester United.
But Fabrizio Romano claimed on his official YouTube channel that Tottenham are prepared to go big to sign Mathys Tel this month, who is looking for guaranteed playing time wherever he goes.
“He wants guaranteed game time, he doesn’t want to be a bench player or a back up, so these are the crucial factors.”
“Tottenham would be prepared to do something important for Mathys Tel, so Tottenham want to try and want to go big.”
Harry Kane lauded Tel’s attitude and for Spurs, there is no better seal of approval than from their all-time top goalscorer.
Tel hinted he could leave Bayern by admitting he is unsure about his future — which should prompt Ange Postecoglou’s side to make a move for him.
The advantage Tottenham have in Mathys Tel race over Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea
Where Tottenham could win the race for Tel over their domestic rivals is that they have formed a good relationship with Bayern due to the sales of Harry Kane and Eric Dier in the past 18 months.
As a result, Spurs could leverage this strong relationship to their advantage and seal the deal to bring the £25 million (Daily Mail) man over to N17.
However, Arsenal have been interested in Tel for years, going back to his time at Rennes.
With Tel also reportedly being keen on heading to Manchester United, it will be interesting to see whether Tottenham will eventually snap him up.
