This offseason, the Boston Red Sox are said to be one of the main contenders for Alex Bregman’s services.

Boston has the money to bring him in for $200 million, and it makes a lot of sense to get him.

However, ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently stated that the Red Sox are not a viable destination for Bregman at this time.

If the Red Sox miss out on Bregman, FanSided’s Chris Landers predicts they will look to find another valuable right-handed bat. Landers suggested that the Red Sox could make a blockbuster trade for Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki.

“If Bregman is off the table and Pete Alonso isn’t a fit, then the next-best righty bat potentially available right now is Suzuki, who isn’t wild about assuming full-time DH duties for a Chicago Cubs team that’s looking to get a little more financially flexible as it is,” Landers wrote. “The 30-year-old might be among the most underrated hitters in baseball right now, and as a right-handed corner outfielder, he fits Boston’s needs like a glove.

“Chicago isn’t dying to get rid of a good player, and it’ll likely cost a bit to get Jed Hoyer’s attention. But the Red Sox have the ammunition, and it’s clear that they need one more quality hitter to round this lineup out before Opening Day.”

Suzuki would be a luxury add for the Red Sox and it’s one they could absolutely afford.

Boston has as much prospect capital to swing trades as any team in the league, but Suzuki might not make the most sense.

The Red Sox may be better off spending their time and money to build the bullpen into a dominant force.
