With only a few weeks until Spring Training begins, the Boston Red Sox don’t have many of their own free agents available, but another one found a new home on Wednesday.
According to Cubs Insider’s Jacob Zanolla, Brad Keller has signed a minor-league contract with the Chicago Cubs, which includes a camp invitation.
Keller, 29, was an eighth-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2013 MLB draft out of Flowery Branch High School in Georgia. The Cincinnati Reds selected him in the Rule 5 draft in 2017 and immediately traded him to the Kansas City Royals.
Keller debuted in the MLB in 2018 with Kansas City and spent six seasons there before signing with the Chicago White Sox in March 2024. After choosing free agency in May, he signed with the Red Sox and spent the year between Boston and Triple-A Worcester.
While he was solid in Worcester (2.91 ERA, 1.158 WHIP and 7.9 K/9), he struggled with Boston (5.84 ERA, 1.622 WHIP and 6.9 K/9).
Boston’s only remaining free agents this offseason who are yet to sign are Kenley Jansen, Nick Pivetta, Luis Garcia, Lucas Sims and Rich Hill.
