Former Texas Longhorns receiver Xavier Worthy set a Kansas City Chiefs record at the end of his rookie season.
Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy is finishing his debut season in the NFL after breaking a Kansas City Chiefs franchise record.
After winning the AFC title, finishing with 85 receiving yards on six catches, and securing a spot in the 2025 Super Bowl, Worthy broke Kansas City’s franchise record for most touchdowns from scrimmage by a rookie in Chiefs history.
Worthy, who was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, had a larger part on the back-to-back Super Bowl champions squad than expected due to a slew of unforeseen injuries in the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps.

“I’m just grateful for the opportunity,” Worthy told The Athletic. “Having the leaders and people who have been in the league for a little time to help me out and simply help me grow as a player, I couldn’t ask for a better group.
“This is a blessing, man. Not many men get to experience this sensation. I saw men crying and men excited. I am genuinely pleased for my boys, man.”
As a Longhorn, Worthy appeared in and started 39 games. He had 26 touchdown receptions, ranking third in program history. The wide receiver was chosen a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News, and Phil Steele following his junior year.
Worthy chose to declare for the NFL Draft rather than complete his fourth year of eligibility. The Buffalo Bills were supposed to select the wide receiver, but they traded the 28th pick to the Chiefs, who chose him.
By defeating the Bills on Sunday, Worthy demonstrated what they had missed out on.
“I mean, I take it as a blessing, and I feel like it’s a sign that they didn’t want me,” Worthy told reporters before the game. “At the end of the day, I plan to play with a chip on my shoulder. This game implies a little more. Obviously, it’s the AFC Championship game, but this is a team who traded their draft pick for someone else.”
