Jose Mourinho: The head coach of Tottenham says he ‘could not be happier’ and pledges ‘passion’.
Mourinho: “I am incredibly happy, and I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t happy.” What am I able to guarantee? passion—both for my club and for my work.”

The previous few days saw the intensification of talks between Spurs and Mourinho, who had been unemployed since being fired by United in December. The negotiations came to an early conclusion on Wednesday morning.

Mourinho said to Spurs TV in his first interview as head coach, “I couldn’t be happier and if I wasn’t happy as I am, I wouldn’t be here.”

“What am I able to guarantee? passion—both for my club and for my work. When a manager visits a team and feels excited about the team he will have, it is a privilege.

These aren’t the words of the day. These are not the words of the head coach of Tottenham. Over the past three, four, and five years, I have spoken and reiterated these things—even when I was an opponent.

“It was always difficult but lovely to play at White Hart Lane versus Tottenham. I used to visit one of these locations with both enthusiasm and decency.”

On Saturday, Mourinho’s first game as manager will be a trip to West Ham, where he hopes to snap a five-game losing streak.

After just 12 games, Spurs are already 20 points behind leaders Liverpool, but the 56-year-old thinks the caliber of Tottenham’s youth bodes well for the team’s future.

Mourinho remarked, “I always told about the club’s potential.” “I constantly talked about the athletes’ attributes. I often mentioned the amazing work the club was accomplishing. I’m incredibly happy with this team and am excited about the young players.

“Not a single manager in the world dislikes playing and assisting the development of young players. The issue is that occasionally you join clubs where the effort being done by those behind you is insufficient to generate these players.
