Sad news: The quarterback for the Dallas Mavericks is having major problems.
Mavericks Injury Updates: Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and Dereck Lively II Will Face the Nets
Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic were listed as injured before the Mavs’ Tuesday game against the Nets.
Brooklyn Tuesday’s game is the second night of a back-to-back for the Dallas Mavericks, who defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 118-102.
Luka Doncic (nasal contusion), Kyrie Irving (right thumb sprain), and Maxi Kleber (right small toe dislocation) will all play against the Nets despite being listed on the injury report. Dereck Lively II (fractured nasal cavity) and Dante Exum (right knee bursitis) were not included.
The Mavs originally listed Doncic as doubtful to play after classifying his prior performance as such; however, they then modified it to read “sore right ankle.” Given that he was struck in the face during the second quarter of Monday’s game against the Nets, he was most likely given this classification before to the game.
Doncic was considered a game-time choice once the pre-game medical information was made public. As a test, he had to wear a mask while working out, but he removed it before finishing. He was classified as eligible to play later.
Despite spraining his right thumb, Irving was always expected to play, and he most likely would against the Nets. After missing six games due to injury, he returned on Monday, finishing with 23 points, eight assists, and five rebounds in 35 minutes. It’s also anticipated that Maxi Kleber will play in Brooklyn.
Irving said, “Feels good to get that game out of the way,” after Monday’s match. Yes, that is what occurs when you go into a battle prepared, folks. I took a few blows to the face. It feels fantastic to get into a rhythm, seal the win, start the journey, and prepare for Brooklyn the next day.
Due to injuries, the Mavs haven’t had many opportunities this season, so they need to use Doncic and Irving together as often as possible. Dallas has only played 23 of the 50 games that the two teams might play this season.
It was previously known that Lively would not be participating against the Nets since he told the media during a recent practice that he would be getting surgery in Dallas to straighten his nose on the day of this game. His surgery went well, but it’s not known when he’ll be able to return to the field.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd informed media before the team’s game against the Nets that Lively is not anticipated to travel with the team on their three-game road trip, which ends on Wednesday against the New York Knicks.
Exum worked out at the Philadelphia team’s shootaround, but it’s still unclear when he may return to action. He had right knee bursitis and a right plantar sprain to begin the season, and he has only played three games since the beginning of January.
