Why Brock Purdy is still a game manager is explained by a former NFL quarterback.

In the second half of the 49ers’ game against the Lions, Brock Purdy performed well enough to shed the title of “game manager.” His use of his legs to create plays out of structure resulted in multiple explosive or big plays for the offense.

Even his most ardent detractors on television came around and acknowledged him. However, other analysts are still sticking to their initial conclusions and aren’t convinced about Purdy.

most recent? Cam Newton, a former NFL quarterback:

“I never claimed Brock Purdy was a piece of garbage. I did mention that Brock Purdy manages games. That’s just what I believe to be true; it’s not hate.

Brock Purdy needs to be the top player on the offensive end of the ball in order to be called a game changer. And that is untrue.

To be really honest, Brock Purdy ranks as the tenth-best player on this team when both his offensive and defensive skills are taken into account. Alright, neat. Did he play a fantastic game? Indeed. Has he been acting irrationally? Indeed. Is he a highly skilled quarterback? Indeed. He is still the team’s tenth-best player, though.

It’s the sound of the goalposts shifting.

Talent is unrelated to this at all. The majority of quarterbacks on this roster rank as the team’s tenth-best player. There are valid claims that NFL players Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, and Fred Warner are the finest at their respective positions.
