NFL star given four-game ban after numerous ‘dirty’ hits so far this season
The Denver Broncos will be without their defensive captain Kareem Jackson after he was suspended for four game for multiple hits leading to fines after being ejected from the
Kareem Jackson, a safety for the Denver Broncos, will miss more than half a million dollars as a result of his four-game suspension.
In just seven games this season, the Broncos defensive captain has already received four fines for late hits and unnecessary roughness penalties. He was also ejected from Sunday’s victory over the Green Bay Packers after it was determined that he had led with his helmet during a tackle on Luke Musgrave.
“On the play in question, you delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of a defenseless receiver, when you had the time and space to avoid such contact,” vice president of football operations Jon Runyan wrote to Jackson. You had the option to communicate with your opponent in accordance with the regulations, but you decided not to.”
With Jackson’s suspension, no player has faced a harsher penalty for late hits or needless roughness since Myles Garrett, a pass rusher for the Cleveland Browns, was punished in 2019 for helmet-hitting Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.
Prior to Sunday’s match, Jackson had previously paid four fines for needless roughness, losing a total of £73,000. After hitting Logan Thomas in the second week’s victory over the Washington Commanders, he was also ejected.
Jackson’s appeal might result in the decision being upheld, in which case the safety would lose over £460,000 of his salary for the current campaign.
Jackson was supported by other Broncos players, who said that he led with his shoulder. One such player is Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs, who tweeted, “He led with his shoulder.” What action is expected of him?”
