Rangers make a move for a “engaging” manager.
Last Saturday, the club fired Michael Beale…
Rangers have been without a manager since the recent firing of Michael Beale, who failed to get going at Ibrox before a Champions League exit, along with defeats in the Scottish Premiership, forced the Gers to fire him. The Gers have been linked with a lot of names as the search for a new manager continues.
Any ideas of a title return may be limited in any case, with Celtic now comfortably clear and on course to win three straight Scottish Premiership titles. Rangers must still check that the following appointment is correct. Having said that, sources indicate that they’ve held negotiations with one of the candidates for the role.
Who has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Rangers job?
Because of the importance of the post at Ibrox, a lot of names have been associated with it, including former Chelsea and Everton managers Frank Lampard and Phillippe Clement. Lampard, however, has been ruled out, while Clement, despite being a free agent, has other suitors, according to Ibrox News.
Kenny McIntyre of BBC Sportscene supplied a Rangers manager update, reporting that the Gers have conducted negotiations with Pascal Jansen following prior speculations of a move. McIntyre told Ibrox News:
Philippe Celement, Kevin Muscat, Pascal Jansen, and Frank Lampard have all been contacted, according to reports. Lampard is no longer being considered. Muscat is said to be an outsider. Clement is a free agent, although he has other suitors, including Jansen.”
That being said, the next week or two will undoubtedly be exciting, considering that the Scottish giants have held negotiations with Jansen, among others, who is quite interested in the job at Ibrox.
Jansen, the current manager of AK Alkmaar, has amazed many this season, winning 77% of his games at the time of writing and leading his team as high as second. During his stay at the club, the Dutchman has received a lot of accolades, particularly from 90Min’s Graeme Bailey, who said:
“This week, I spoke with AZ manager Pascal Jansen ahead of their Europa Conference League semi-final second leg against West Ham.” English-born, a really fascinating and engaging personality who would relish the opportunity to coach in the Premier League.”
Rangers may not need to adjust to a new formation with Jansen’s arrival, as the Alkmaar manager’s favoured system employs a 4-3-3 defensive set-up. Given that Alkmaar have only conceded three goals in the league this season, it’s evident that this is a strategy that may work wonders for giving some security to the Gers’ backline.
That’s not to say Jansen doesn’t get the most out of his attack, with his current team scoring plenty of goals in seven league games this season. The fact is that everything points to a manager ready to take Rangers back to success, thus his name is one to keep an eye on.
