Diego Costa is the most recent addition to Wolves’ injury list ahead of Newcastle United.
Birmingham news about the WolvesLive covers the most recent injury updates ahead of this weekend’s game versus Newcastle United.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were dealt another injury blow on Saturday when Diego Costa suffered a knee injury in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux. Costa, who was making his first start in two months, had to be substituted in the first half after landing awkwardly on his left knee, and was replaced by Raul Jimenez.
The Compton Park treatment room appeared to be emptying, but Julen Lopetegui has been dealt a few blows in recent matches on the injury front. Prior to Costa’s injury, Wolves suffered injuries to Matheus Cunha against Fulham and Hugo Bueno against Liverpool.
Cunha made his return against Spurs, but Lopetegui is still waiting for Bueno, Boubacar Traore, and Hwang Hee-chan to be fully healthy. Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic are out with long-term injuries.
The precise degree of Costa’s injury has still to be determined, but the veteran striker was plainly in discomfort in his left knee. Costa attempted to walk off the field before collapsing and requesting a stretcher.
Following the game, Lopetegui announced that Costa would be tested to assess the extent of the injury. “We’ll check him tomorrow,” Lopetegui stated. “He was in pain in his knee.” We must wait.”
Hugo Bravo
Hamstring strain
Nottingham Forest (April 1) is a possible return date.
Bueno injured his hamstring while running back to face Mohamed Salah in the first half of Wolves’ loss to Liverpool, and he did not play against Tottenham. He now appears to be out of Wolves’ upcoming games against Newcastle United and Leeds United before the international break.
“He was working well in the last matches, it’s a shame,” Lopetegui remarked. We hope he will be able to return as soon as feasible. With a hamstring, it might be three to four weeks.”
Boubacar Traore’s
Groin strain
Traore has yet to play under Lopetegui owing to a groin issue. Lopetegui revealed Traore developed a new condition after returning to training after groin surgery. The two injuries are not thought to be connected.
“Bouba is closer, but he is not ready to start training with us,” Lopetegui said in his most recent update on Traore. He had a minor setback, but he is now closer to joining us.”
Hee-chan Hwang
Hamstring strain
Hwang collapsed near the end of Wolves’ brilliant first-half performance in Wolves’ 3-0 win over Liverpool on February 4. Before suffering a hamstring injury, the South Korean was having one of his best outings in a Wolves shirt.
Hwang is almost ready to return to the field. “I believe he is nearing the end of his recovery,” Lopetegui said. “We’ll see. It will be beneficial to us. Maybe another week or two. It is dependent on the player’s sensation and feeling.”
Chiquinho
Injury to the knee
May is a possible return date.
In July, Chiquinho suffered a terrible injury during a pre-season friendly against Burnley. The game’s leading scorer sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury and required surgery in late July.
He has been nominated to Wolves’ Premier League squad, and if his recovery continues at this rate, there is a potential we will see him before the conclusion of the season.
“With the kind of injury he has had, I cannot answer you,” Lopetegui said when asked if Chiquinho will be able to return this season. “I hope and wish he is ready as soon as possible.”
Kalajdzic, Sasa
Injury to the knee
Kalajdzic tore his ACL on his Wolves debut against Southampton while attempting an overhead ball. Kalajdzic has been left out of Wolves’ Premier League squad, which means he won’t be able to play again until next season at the earliest.
“In the end, it was a pity, but Sasa is going to be out because medically he is not going to be ready until next season, or maybe at the end of this season,” Lopetegui added. Because Chiquinho is nearby, we chose this alternative.
