David Moyes will make 10 West Ham changes for the Lincoln cup tie but it’s still a strong side with their £38m man starting and young talent on standby.
That’s what we predict as West Ham travel to Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday night.
This will be an eighth game of the season for the Hammers in all competitions as the fixture schedule starts to get serious.
After their Europa League opener on Thursday night, West Ham were away at Liverpool on Sunday and now face League One Lincoln on Wednesday night in what we traditionally know as the League Cup.
That’s before the hectic schedule continues with another three-game week sandwiching a second European group game next Thursday.
Competing at the top end of the Premier League, in Europe and facing a third 50-game plus season in a row is a mark of how far West Ham have come.
But it also means David Moyes has to carefully plan how to juggle his Hammers squad correctly.
The side to face Lincoln was always going to be a mix of the team that faced FK TSC Backa Topola in Europe and top academy talent.
The Evening Standard claims Moyes has left stars James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Michail Antonio, Alphonse Areola, Emerson Palmieri and captain Kurt Zouma in London.
So that helps narrow down who might start against the Imps with the bench likely to be comprised of several young players.
We predict Moyes makes 10 West Ham changes for the Lincoln cup tie but it’s still a strong side with their £38m man starting and young talent on standby.
We believe Tomas Soucek will be the only player to keep his place from the defeat to Liverpool last time out.
But it will be a side full of international and Premier League experience and £38m man Mohammed Kudus.
There have been calls to drop Nayef Aguerd from West Ham’s Premier League starting XI. So if he plays against Lincoln then it appears Moyes will do exactly that for the Sheffield United game.
Here’s how we see West Ham lining up.
