Joe Cole calls England manager Gareth Southgate’silly’ for continuing to ignore James Ward-Prowse and cautions him about his West Ham blind spot.
Gareth Southgate has been warned by Joe Cole about his West Ham blind spot, and the England manager would be “silly” to ignore James Ward-Prowse, according to Cole.
When Gareth Southgate left Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse out of his England team for the month of September, everyone associated with West Ham was furious, if not particularly surprised.
When Southgate chose players like Kalvin Phillips, Jordan Henderson, Eddie Nketiah, and Callum Wilson above the two, there was general astonishment — and not just among Hammers supporters.
For West Ham, Bowen and £30 million newcomer Ward-Prowse have both had a strong start to the season.
Particularly Ward-Prowse has drawn attention with his two goals and five assists in his first five games for the Hammers.
For West Ham so far, that equates to a goal contribution every 70 minutes.
Even the media crew for the Premier League appeared to be picking on Southgate for leaving Ward-Prowse out of his previous squad.
In response to the rejection, West Ham academy alumnus Rio Ferdinand even suggested that Ward-Prowse should resign from his international obligations.

Ward-Prowse has scored against Man City and provided two assists in a 3-1 Europa League victory over TSC Backa Topola since the end of the last international break.
With the next international break in October, a former Hammers player has now delivered a direct message to the Three Lions manager.
Joe Cole cautions Southgate about his West Ham blind spot and claims it would be’silly’ for the England manager to keep ignoring Ward-Prowse.
He’s outstanding! Outstanding,” Cole remarked on TNT Sports.

It would be foolish to disregard him.Exceptional football player with a distinct style. Even though I’ve been a fan, I’m impressed by how well he’s done.
He provides West Ham the knowledge that, on the days when they’re not playing well, all it takes is one goal to win the game. I don’t believe there is anyone else in the world of football with set-pieces of that caliber.
He’s going to deliver it, and there will be opportunities for goals to be scored by anyone, including Tomas Soucek, Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna, and Nayef Aguerd.
