David Wagner on Josh Sargent’s surgery for Norwich City

Josh Sargent, a striker for Norwich City, had successful ankle surgery after suffering an injury against Huddersfield.
Despite a successful ankle operation, Josh Sargent will still need to miss three to four months of action for Norwich City.

In the 4-0 romp against Huddersfield, the US international striker injured ankle ligaments while scoring his third Championship goal in five outings.

Lee Nicholls’ initial clearing was blocked by Sargent, who then pounced on the rebound and fell on the ground after injuring his ankle.

David Wagner, the head coach, gave a favorable post-operative report at Colney as he discussed Stoke’s upcoming weekend trip to Carrow Road.

“On Wednesday, we saw Josh for the first time inside the facility following his operation. Good looking, he said.

Obviously, after speaking with him, I can report that he is no longer in need of painkillers, which is fantastic news. The next phase is for him to come out of stitches the next week, and the deadline we set for his return is still Christmas or the first few days of January.

“So far, everything has gone smoothly. But right now, it’s all about healing, having a proper rehab, and then properly building up his fitness.

As the Canaries continue to evaluate the severity of the ankle injury Marcelino Nunez sustained while representing Chile internationally, he is expected to miss a few weeks of action.

However, there was more encouraging news regarding wide players Onel Hernandez and Borja Sainz. Sainz has yet to play for the team since joining in the summer due to ankle ligament damage sustained early in preseason, while Hernandez missed the previous four games due to a broken hand.

Longer-term absentees include Grant Hanley (Achilles) and Jacob Sorensen (pelvic surgery).

“Borja participated in two days of preseason before suffering an injury. He spent a whole week with the Under-21s last week and a full week with us this week, according to Wagner. “I believe it is sensible that he receives a start in the under-21s while he improves his physical condition. However, Onel has returned and is available, Borja has resumed training, and we now have Adam Forshaw, Danny Batth, and Hwang Ui-Jo.

Jacob Sorensen’s Lunghi (Jacob) takes a little bit longer. Hopefully he resumes training in a week or two. Then, the only people we will miss are Grant and Nacho.
