Haywards Heath Town 1, Norwich City Women 6: match report
Norwich City earned their first home victory of the season with an exciting display at The Nest.
Martin Herdman’s team didn’t waste any time settling into the game, with Megan Todd thumping home a penalty after only four minutes.
City’s starting front four worked well together in the first period, with Natasha Snelling and Ellie Smith both scoring before the half-hour mark.
The hosts then increased their lead when Rachel Lawrence scored her first two goals for the club either side of halftime, both times pouncing on loose balls. However, the winger had a fantastic chance to complete her hat-trick when a penalty was saved just before the hour.
Haywards Heath captain Sophie Phelps broke Sarah Quantrill’s clean sheet in the 61st minute, but City were not satisfied with a four-goal victory. Lawrence curled home beautifully from the edge of the visitors’ box in the closing moments to make up for her penalty miss and take home the matchball.
Norwich City’s line-up is as follows: Quantrill, Parker, Strauss, Flye, Tomlinson, Morran, Hailes, Todd, Smith, Lawrence, and Snelling.
