Blackburn Rovers identify a Birmingham City player as a potential replacement for Adam Wharton.

Jordan James of Birmingham City has been mentioned by Blackburn Rovers as a potential replacement for Adam Wharton, according to The Sun.
James, 19, graduated from Birmingham City’s youth program, and the Welsh international made his first-team debut in the 2021–2022 campaign.

Since then, he has played for the Blues in more than 50 games, but under John Eustace, James has had a mixed role, frequently coming on as a late-game substitute.

According to The Sun, James ‘does not fit in with the system’ that Eustace uses, and the midfielder is starting to draw transfer interest.

According to Alan Nixon, Lecce of Serie A and Blackburn Rovers of the Championship are both interested in signing James.

According to Nixon, Blackburn has identified James as a potential successor for Wharton, who has been courted by Premier League teams all year.

From James to Blackburn
Blackburn Rovers have a reputation of luring good, established first-team players away from Championship and Football League competitors.

They’ve brought in Dom Hyam from Coventry City and Sammie Szmodics from Peterborough United, both of whom have gone on to become vital players, and James might be the next.

He’s out of favor at St Andrew’s, and the club’s flood of summer signings hasn’t helped his chances of playing time.

But he’s still a highly regarded talent with a lot of promise, so it’s no surprise that teams are interested in him.

The January transfer season is still a few months away, and James’ circumstances at Birmingham City could alter before then, but this is a fascinating link for Rovers.

In midweek, Blackburn meet Sunderland, while Birmingham City face Preston North End.
