Sources: After a new development, the door is open for West Ham to sign Ekitike.
West Ham United’s target Hugo Ekitike is expected to leave Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain in January, according to Football Insider.
It is understood that all sides have agreed that the 21-year-old should leave Parc des Princes during the mid-season transfer window.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that PSG were left “frustrated” that Ekitike was unwilling to join Eintracht Frankfurt as part of the deal to bring Randal Kolo Muani.
Instead, the forward desired a move to the Premier League and met with English clubs in an attempt to obtain his ambition.
West Ham were in talks with the teenager up until the penultimate day of the summer transfer window, but a deal did not materialize.
He is still at PSG, although he is far down the pecking order in Luis Enrique’s squad.
Ekitike has only played eight minutes for the French giants this season and was absent from the squad when they overcame Lyon before the international break.
After the obligation to buy in his original loan spell was triggered, the right-footer only signed permanently for the Parisians in July.
He spent the 2022-23 season with PSG, however he only made 14 starts out of 32 total appearances.
In those games, the former Newcastle target had four goals and four assists.
Ekitike impressed Europe’s top by scoring 11 goals and assisting four times in 28 appearances for his boyhood club Stade de Reims.
After a disappointing one-year stint at the London Stadium, West Ham permitted Gianluca Scamacca to leave for Roma during the summer transfer window.
To begin the new season, the Irons have accumulated 10 points out of a potential 12.
In other news, West Ham has stated that they will accept a “huge” offer for their top player.
