Will we get a resolution in the near future?

The Boston Red Sox have had a long offseason full of speculations.

While this is the case, the Red Sox are better off than they were at the end of the 2024 season. Whether the Red Sox sign Alex Bregman or not, Boston should improve in 2025. The Red Sox won 81 games in 2024, and they’ve added Walker Buehler, Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman, and Patrick Sandoval.

Boston is definitely in a stronger position, though acquiring Bregman would be ideal. So far this offseason, he has been linked to the Red Sox. There have been many rumors. His market has recently heated up, with the Houston Astros reportedly interested in him again.

Hopefully, this is an indication that the sweepstakes will end soon. It would be ideal if he signed with Boston, but the speculation ending would be satisfactory whatever.

He is undoubtedly the best remaining free agent available right now, and it is unclear which team he will sign with. It’s remarkable that he’s still available with only around two weeks until pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training.

ESPN’s David Schoenfield attempted to forecast where the top remaining free agents would land, concluding that Houston will win the sweepstakes for the All-Star slugger.

“Prediction: Bregman to the Astros,” Schoenfield stated. “On paper, the (Detroit Tigers) remain a solid fit — they need offense and they have lots of salary room, plus Bregman would reunite with former Astros manager A.J. Hinch in Detroit. The Astros, on the other hand, recently cleared Ryan Pressly’s $14 million payroll with his trade to the Chicago Cubs, only a few days after Astros General Manager Dana Brown informed reporters the club is still in talks with Bregman.

“While Brown called it a ‘long shot’ for Bregman to return, those odds suddenly look much greater. Yes, the Astros have Isaac Paredes at third base and Christian Walker at first (Paredes’ other position), but they could trade Paredes or use him as a part-time DH (when Yordan Alvarez plays left field) and utility player.”

Maybe we’ll finally get a resolution to this sweepstakes soon with Spring Training just over the horizon.
