The Boston Red Sox’s farm system is now known for its talented position players, but there are a few arms who have the potential to make an impact in the majors soon.

Luis Perales, a right-handed starter, is among them.

The 16-year-old Venezuelan international free agent signed with Boston in 2019. Since his debut with the DSL Red Sox in 2021 at the age of 18, he has progressed up the organization, reaching Double-A Portland last year before tearing his UCL and requiring Tommy John surgery.

Only seven months later, Perales has resumed throwing and appears to be recuperating well.

In nine starts in 2024 at High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland, he had a 2.94 ERA, 1.307 WHIP, and 15.0 K/9.

Baseball America listed Perales as the sport’s No. 57 prospect last June. However, following his injury, he was dropped from their ranks. SoxProspects has him ranked No. 4 in the system.

The 21-year-old will likely miss most if not all of the season, but he should be ready to go fully in 2026 as long as the rehab process goes well.
