Nebraska Football sees early transfer portal action as two players depart

Nebraska football faces departures as two players enter transfer portal, signaling opportunities for new talent.

Two Nebraska football players entered the transfer portal on the first day that it was officially open. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the first two Huskers to enter the portal are players who didn’t stand to make much of an impact at all

Of the two, Corey Collier is the biggest loss for the Nebraska Football team, though as it turns out, he hasn’t been with head coach Matt Rhule’s squad since February. Collier is also a bit of a lost opportunity as he came over from Florida as a former 4-star and Top 150 recruit.

Collier appeared in five games last season but was apparently not on board with the Husker coaches’ plans for this season. The staff had not previously made comments on why Collier wasn’t around but he didn’t participate in any drills or spring practice.

Collier and the other Nebraska Football player to enter the portal, Eric Fields will both officially depart just a few weeks before the Huskers wrap up their spring practice with the final Spring Game scrimmage.

Like Collier, Fields might officially be entering the transfer portal on its opening day, but he’d actually left the Huskers well before today. The linebacker is a former 3-star prospect who might have been a bit of a reach for Nebraska considering the other schools offering him tended to be from the Sun Belt.

Three Nebraska Football players now officially in the transfer portal

Collier and Fields are the first two Huskers to enter the portal during this period, but they are joined by a holdover from this winter’s transfer period.

Quarterback Jeff Sims continues to apparently be on the lookout for a new school. Until today, he was the only player from the Nebraska Football team who hadn’t yet found a new home.
