Twenty-three Clemson football players had positive coronavirus tests.
According to the university’s athletics department, at least 28 Clemson University athletes and staff—23 of them are football players—have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The sports department reported on Friday in a news release that 315 Clemson student-athletes and staff members have been tested for Covid-19 so far this month, and 28 of those tests have returned positive results.
Two of the 23 football players are from the first round of testing that was conducted last week, a Clemson spokeswoman told CNN.
According to the press statement, “Clemson has notified and isolated each of those individuals who tested positive for at least 10 days.” The persons’ close connections have also been requested to self-quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.
According to the announcement, “none of the total cases have required hospitalization; the majority have been asymptomatic.” “As community transmission persists in the region, it is recommended that individuals keep an eye out for symptoms.”
The University of Tennessee said on Friday that following testing of many players from the men’s and women’s basketball teams, one male student-athlete tested positive for Covid-19. According to a spokesperson for the athletics department, the university’s sports health team has “activated isolation and contact-tracing protocol in collaboration with the Knox County Health Department.”
There are other sports outside college football when coronavirus testing are positive.
Since NHL Clubs opened on June 8, eleven NHL players have also tested positive for the virus, the league announced in a statement.
To date, more than 200 athletes who have volunteered for training have had viral tests performed on them.

CNN was informed by a San Francisco Giants spokesperson that the team shuttered their Arizona facility on Friday due to symptoms experienced by a visitor and a family member on Thursday.
