It was a near-crash that started Tyler Grisham’s recruitment journey at Clemson. It’s sailing well now.

CLEMSON Tyler Grisham, the coach of Clemson’s wide receivers, took off from the local airport for his first flight as a recruiter little over a year ago. For a brief while, it seemed like it would be his last before making a terrifying but safe landing in Georgia.

Following Monday’s exercise, Grisham recounted, “I was the only one on board and the system shut down and they flew blind.” “The fog made visibility extremely poor. We made it, even though the pilots were perspiring and I could see they were nervous.

Grisham’s next flight on the recruiting trail this spring will be his first as the program’s new recruit coordinator, a position he took on following Todd Bates’ early January departure for Oklahoma.

Grisham played wide for Clemson from 2005 to 2008. With eight touchdowns, 132 receptions for 1,390 yards were collected by him. Before joining the Steelers and participating in four games in 2009, he was not drafted. He was a member of Pittsburgh’s practice squad from 2010 to 2011, and he returned to Denver in 2012.

He graduated from Clemson with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management, and he went on to get a master’s degree in human resource development from the same institution.

“It was just like, ‘Here you go, this is your new job, here’s your new title,'” recalled Grisham. “It wasn’t my idea, but I truly like recruiting, so I think it fits me well. I had never gone on the road and recruited before this spring. COVID prevents me from traveling in the spring. Meeting my local coaches will thus be novel and intriguing. Though I’ve spoken with them on the phone, very few of them have really met me.

However, I’ll serve as a contact with the high school coaches to assist us enhance our recruitment efforts, be imaginative and enjoy ourselves, and if possible, give visitors a sense that this is a unique institution.
