Deal completed: Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott will depart tomorrow after agreeing to a $205.5 million contract with the Steelers.

With a devastating 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wildcard round of the playoffs, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys’ 2023 season came to an end, prolonging their wait for an NFC title game appearance to at least 30 years.

The Cowboys faced an impossible mountain to climb in the second half as a result of Prescott’s two interceptions in the first half against the Packers. Half the issue was the quarterback’s dreadful first-half performance; for three quarters, the defense was unable to contain the Packers’ offensive threat.

Proposals have been made for significant modifications in Dallas. Among them is Danny White, a franchise great, but he doesn’t think Prescott has anything to do with the Cowboys’ postseason struggles. In an interview at the Fort Worth Davey O’Brien Legends Award, he stated,

It was simple to blame the quarterback, according to White. He cited Prescott’s outstanding performance in the 2023 season as evidence for his assertion that a significant upgrading to the roster surrounding him is necessary for the Cowboys to be regarded as genuine Super Bowl contenders.

Following the Dallas Cowboys’ season-ending loss, owner Jerry Jones did not make any radical changes to the roster or the coaching staff. However, a few days after his team’s morale-deflating loss, he made a vow, telling reporters:

Jones did not elaborate on his definition of “all-in,” but it likely meant that the Cowboys would load up on the best free agents and make trades that could upgrade positions on the roster that need a facelift.

While the Cowboys are going all-in in 2024, they want Prescott to stick around for the foreseeable future. Per reports, the team is willing to offer their quarterback a contract extension worth $60 million a year.

Danny White is echoed by Jones. Dak Prescott’s salary being the highest in the NFL is a clear indication that the franchise believes he can lead them to the Super Bowl. Although he hasn’t been able to break their streak of consecutive NFC Championship Game appearances, the team still has trust in his ability.
