NFL Trade Rumors: Raiders and Bears are connected Justin Fields Prior to 2024’s Free Agency
If the Chicago Bears decide to trade quarterback Justin Fields, the Las Vegas Raiders are probably among the clubs interested in acquiring him, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Atlanta Falcons are among the other clubs Fowler mentioned as possible suitors for Fields.
Former head coach of the Raiders, Antonio Pierce, has previously stated that the team will try to acquire a quarterback this summer instead of continuing to use Aidan O’Connell, who started ten games in his debut campaign after Jim Garoppolo was benched.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Garoppolo will likely be released by the Raiders this summer.
Pierce stated on February 28 that “you don’t want to put a Band-Aid at that position,” as reported by Vic Tafur of The Athletic. “We’ve seen that enough in this organization.”
It’s uncertain if Fields—who, in the last year of his rookie contract (2024, will pay little over $6 million against the cap—will be that long-term fix. The decision to exercise his 2025 club option, which Spotrac estimates will cost $25.6 million, will fall to his next team.
Fields played 13 games in 2023 despite missing much of the season due to a thumb injury. He finished with a 5-8 record with 2,562 throwing yards with 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
The majority of league observers believe the Bears will get a second- or third-round pick in exchange for Fields, according to a recent survey by The Athletic’s Jeff Howe of eight NFL executives and coaches. However, ESPN’s Courtney Cronin predicted last week that Fields could receive both a second- and fourth-round selection.
Furthermore, “plenty of smoke” surrounds a possible deal that would send Fields to the Falcons, according to Fowler.
“As one league source put it, Atlanta has done enough work on Fields, Cousins and Baker Mayfield that the chances of coming away with one of them are fairly good,” Fowler stated.
Fowler mentioned March 13 as a “soft” deadline for the Bears’ possible trade. That day marks the start of teams’ ability to sign free agents.
