Two former practice squad players are signed by commanders – Tracker
As they navigate through an offseason of ups and downs, news and perspectives, the Washington Commanders and the rest of the NFL are making moves.
COMMANDERS SIGN TWO FORMING PRACTICE SQUAD PLAYERS FEBRUARY 22 Zach Selby of the team reports that guard Mason Brooks and receiver Kazmeir Allen were signed by the Washington Commanders. They were both on the practice squad for 2023.
CALEB WILLIAMS WILL JOIN NFL ON FEB. 21 WITHOUT AGENT Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the University of Southern California and one of the top signal callers in the 2024 NFL Draft, has not signed an agent and has no intention of doing so, according to Pro Football Talk.
The practice of athletes speaking for themselves is not new; linebacker Bobby Wagner of the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens have both done it in the past.
However, Williams may find it challenging to manage the demanding schedule that includes getting ready for the NFL Combine, his Pro Day, and scheduling pre-draft visits with organizations.
However, Williams is still the clear favorite to be the first overall choice in the draft; the Washington Commanders, ranked second, could not even have a chance to choose the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner.
ANALYST: FEB 16 COMMANDERS WIN NFC EAST Although the 2024 season is seven months away, Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports has a daring prediction for the NFC East.
The Commanders might jump from last to first place in the NFC East in only one season if they were to have their first repeat champion in 20 years.
COMMANDERS ADD ASSISTANT GM ON FEBRUARY 14 In the main office, the Washington Commanders are circling about.
The organization announced that Lance Newmark, Senior Director of Player Personnel for the Detroit Lions, has been appointed as Adam Peters’ assistant general manager. Martin Mayhew, the former general manager, is anticipated to move into an advising capacity. Marty Hurney, executive vice president, will also start serving as Peters’ advisor.
FEB. 13: COMMANDERS HIRED SHARRIF FLOYD The coaching staff of the Washington Commanders keeps growing.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has learned that the Commanders are going to appoint Sharrif Floyd as an assistant defensive line coach.
The Minnesota Vikings selected Floyd, 32, in the first round of the 2013 draft. He spent four seasons with the organization until injuries terminated his career early. In 2023, he started working as a coach with the Dallas Cowboys. He now goes with Dan Quinn to the Commanders.
GO YOUNG SUPER BOWL SACK ON FEB. 11 Chase Young, a former defensive end with the Washington Commanders, is causing a stir in the Super Bowl.
Young has a sack against Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the first quarter.
