Forward Jacob Toppin and the New York Knicks reached a 10-day deal on Thursday.
Toppin, who will compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2024, has already played in five Knicks games this year. He has been playing with the G League’s Westchester Knicks for the majority of the year.
In October, Jacob Toppin, the younger brother of Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin, signed a two-way contract with the Knicks after going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft. In December, he debuted for the NBA after helping Westchester win a G League Showcase.
Toppin can be a practice body and a role player for brief bursts of action after the break, but the Knicks are unlikely to make him a regular fixture in their rotation. With just 12 players on its roster when the All-Star break ended, New York needed two more to reach the league minimum of 14.
It’s also anticipated that DaQuan Jeffries will sign a 10-day deal.
Before determining whether to keep Toppin for the remainder of the season or return him to the G League, the Knicks have the option to sign him to two 10-day contracts.
