Everton could sign ‘brilliant’ player if he is willing to take a wage cut

Everton are in talks to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that the Toffees are one of a number of clubs in negotiations with Chelsea.

Formerly one of the Blues’ most exciting young prospects and labelled ‘brilliant‘ by Thomas Tuchel, Hudson-Odoi was sent out on loan last season as he looked to rediscover his form and pick up some regular football.

The winger joined Bayer Leverkusen but failed to score a single league goal and is now looking for a fresh start, with his future at Stamford Bridge looking very bleak.

Everton are reportedly joined by Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, as well as teams in France, Germany, US and Saudi Arabia in their pursuit of Hudson-Odoi.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are only demanding £15 million to end the 22-year-old’s 15-year stint with the club.

However, Hudson-Odoi would have to take a pay cut to join a majority of sides interested – including Everton.

The forward is said to be earning around £120,000-per-week after Chelsea offered him a staggering new contract back in 2019 to end interest from Bayern Munich, despite only being 18 years old at the time.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has a lot of potential but might not be worth the risk for Everton

Callum Hudson-Odoi clearly has a lot of potential and talent that he showed in the early days of his time with Chelsea. However, Everton don’t really want another situation similar to Dele Alli’s.

While Dele had enjoyed a lot more success at Tottenham Hotspur than Hudson-Odoi, Everton snapped him up last year thinking they could help him get back to his best.

The Toffees have since spent a lot of money on his wages and are now hoping he can find his feet this season – 18 months later.

Hudson-Odoi could be a big risk for Sean Dyche’s side if they still have to pay him a lot to join the club, even with the salary deduction.

Everton now rival Nottingham Forest for £15m-rated forward

Nottingham Forest are still keen on signing Che Adams this summer as they look to increase their firepower. The Reds are hoping to sign a forward or two, with the Southampton man on their radar.

According to The Sun, Everton are now in the mix to sign Adams too. The Toffees will hope to enjoy a better season under Sean Dyche and he’s looking to put his own stamp on his squad.

Despite a season of struggle for Southampton, Adams performer reasonably well. He scored 10 goals and claimed three assists in all competitions and now clubs are closely monitoring him.

The talented 26-year-old actually started his career in the East Midlands. He was playing non-league football for Oadby Town before he really started to shine after signing for Ilkeston FC.

From there he was signed by Sheffield United. The Blades gave him a first crack at professional football and at Bramall Lane, he made 55 appearances and scored 15 goals for the club.

Birmingham picked him up from United and he again did a decent job for the Blues. During his time at St. Andrews, he made 123 appearances and bagged 38 goals.

This isn’t the first time that Forest have tried to sign Adams. Steve Cooper was keen to sign him on loan in January 2022 but at the time, the Saints weren’t keen on selling their forward.

Now, the Reds and Everton look set to be doing battle to take the striker ahead of the new campaign. It’s claimed that he’s valued at around £15 million, with Southampton not guaranteed to sell him this summer.

Forest still keen on Adams but they must look elsewhere

At 26, there is a lot to like about the £52,000-a-week Adams. He’s approaching his prime and ultimately, for the last two seasons, he’s scored goals in a team that has so often struggled to perform.

But, there is something that doesn’t sit quite right with Forest signing Adams. The Reds probably have better forwards already within their squad and £15 million seems a lot for a backup option.

Adams wouldn’t be a bad player to sign this summer but only if moves for the top targets don’t come to fruition. Then, perhaps Forest could turn to Adams if he still hasn’t signed for anyone else at that stage.

The Saints player would probably like to sign for Forest. It would allow him to move back to the East Midlands and also the chance to stay in the Premier League after relegation last term.
