Cowboys Stop Dan Quinn From Taking A Second Coaching Position
The Dallas Cowboys have prevented former DC Dan Quinn from snatching another coach to the NFC East opponent after Quinn left to pursue a head coaching job with the Washington Commanders.
Dan Quinn, a former defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, hasn’t spent any time in assembling his coaching staff. Joe Whitt Jr., the Cowboys’ secondary coach and coordinator of passing games, was taken by the Washington Commanders head coach last week, and he already had his sights set on another member of the staff.
Luckily for Cowboys supporters, Quinn’s second attempt was unsuccessful.
Cowboys News: Interview Request for Dallas Blocks Commanders
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys have forbidden the Commanders from speaking with tight ends coach Lunda Wells. According to people close to Rapoport, Quinn wanted to appoint Wells as the next offensive line coach for Washington.
Since the commencement of the 2020 NFL season, Wells, 40, has served as the Cowboys’ tight end coach. It seems sense that Quinn, who has been a member of Mike McCarthey’s coaching staff for the past three years, would attempt to get Wells to join the rival Commanders.
Wells held a variety of capacities with the New York Giants prior to joining the Cowboys. In 2012, he served as their offensive assistant. From 2013 to 2017, he was their assistant offensive line coach. In 2018 and 2019, he was their TE coach. It appears that his NFC East visit will now be postponed.
When these NFC East rivals square off for the first time next season, Quinn’s attempt to get the Cowboys coaches to join the Commanders will only heighten the tension. But Dallas, who has defeated the Commanders 12 times in the previous 16 confrontations, should have little trouble unseating its former DC.
