Source: NFL Tracker: Mike Zimmer Is Interested in Becoming the Dallas Cowboys’ Coach
ZIMMER IN FEBRUARY 1ST? Dan Quinn is leaving Dallas to take the top position in Washington, and strong candidates are vying for the position of defensive coordinator.
Currently on that list: according to a source. Mike Zimmer would like to return to Dallas.
With a résumé that demonstrates his ability to manage any defense, Zimmer, 67, has also held head coaching positions. He also has “experience” with the Cowboys from his time as a top assistant here, having worked with Deion Sanders in the modern college game, and more.
A source described Zimmer’s overall abilities and fit as “he gets it.”
One recurring subject at The Star is Zimmer’s experience as a head coach. Al Harris or Aden Durde, both of whom would be rookie coordinators in head coach Mike McCarthy’s lame-duck season, may be Joe Whitt’s replacement if he chooses Quinn.
But Ron Rivera, Mike Vrabel, Brandon Staley, and (for kicks!) Bill Belichick—names that CowboysSI.com broke first—will be interviewing with Dallas?
Here, head coaching expertise will be important.
JAN 28 AB IN BIG D Antonio Brown has expressed his desire to rejoin the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL on many occasions. That is never, ever going to happen for a variety of reasons, many of which are behavioral in nature.
If AB wishes to visit Big D in order to “perform,” though? The “5 A.M. Theater” has provided him with a stage (NSFW) on which to perform.
Without further ado, enjoy AB “singing” a song called “Get Your S*** On!” which has twerking chicks in their underwear, a lackluster melody, and poor artistic quality. Have fun!
DURDE IN DEMAND JAN 25 The Dallas Cowboys assistant, Aden Durde, who was born in Britain, is suddenly in high demand.
According to ESPN, Green Bay, the Rams, and Atlanta are requesting access to the Cowboys defensive line coach.
Durde, forty-four He is one of Dan Quinn’s most trusted lieutenants and has been with Dallas since 2021. There is speculation that Quinn would select Durde to be his defensive coordinator if he is hired as head coach in Seattle or Washington. Durde is undoubtedly highly regarded by the Cowboys as well.
ALARCON TO SF JAN 23 The Dallas Cowboys’ trial with the former NFL International Player Pathway Program hopeful Isaac Alarcón has come to an end as the San Francisco 49ers have signed him to a reserve/future deal. Alarcón is originally from Mexico.
Alarcón was dismissed by the Cowboys as part of the 53-man roster purge that took place before to the current campaign, but he was permitted to stay on the practice squad, where he has played his whole career, by the league. Although he hasn’t played in an NFL game yet, the 25-year-old moved from being an offensive lineman to a defensive lineman this season.
TWO RBS SIGNED JAN 17. Wide receiver Martavis Bryant is returning to the Cowboys on a futures contract, as CowboysSI.com revealed last week.
Dallas has also agreed to future contracts with running backs Malik Davis and Snoop Conner, as Tony Pollard is expected to be a free agency.
Conner was selected by the Jaguars in the fifth round out of Ole Miss and spent 2023 on the practice squad. Davis has spent the previous several years in Dallas and is seen as a potential backfield asset.
