The Philadelphia Eagles suffered injury scares to quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver AJ Brown in their final game of the regular season against the New York Giants on Sunday.
First, Brown limped off the field with a knee injury and then Hurts’ middle finger on his throwing hand appeared to pop out of its socket after he collided with Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke.
Hurts initially returned to the game but was then replaced by Marcus Mariota shortly before halftime, while Brown didn’t play another down and was later ruled out for the game.
Hurts said after the game his finger ‘popped out’ and that it felt ‘ok’ before adding he was taking things ‘day to day’ at this point in the season.
No status update was given on Brown after the game. He was in street clothes by the time he greeted his teammates in the locker room after the loss.
Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Eagles, hurt his finger playing against the New York Giants.
Due to a knee injury, Philadelphia wide receiver A.J. Brown hobbled off the field on Sunday.
The Eagles had an NFL-best 10-1 start to the season and were considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl about a month ago.
Philadelphia, which is still fighting for postseason status in the NFC, did not have the luxury of resting players for its season finale.
The Giants jumped out to an incredible 24-0 lead over the Eagles in a game that is far more important to Philadelphia than it is to New York.
However, Philadelphia has lost four of its previous five games coming into Sunday’s match.
Even if they are both healthy, Brown and Hurts will have a far tougher path to the Super Bowl this season, despite their importance to the Eagles’ success.
