Super Bowl hero cut by the Eagles, free to sign with a playoff team

Officially, the former running back for the Philadelphia Eagles is unrestricted.

The Arizona Cardinals have released Corey Clement, who gained notoriety for his 100-yard receiving performance during the team’s victory against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Thus, before the postseason begins, the former Eagles running back is free to sign with a team that makes the playoffs.

According to a source, the Cardinals are cutting veteran running back Corey Clement off the practice squad today. This will allow him to sign with a playoff club that is in need of depth, reports Pelissero.

Corey Clement looks like he's regained his explosive form

In the Super Bowl, Corey Clement led the Eagles in receiving yards.
From 2017 to 2020, the 29-year-old Clement played four seasons with Philadelphia as a backup back, seeing a good amount of playing time in his first two seasons. Clement played 23% of the offensive snaps in 2017 and 32% of the offensive snaps in 2018, appearing in all 16 games during his rookie campaign.

But Clement’s most lasting memory will always be his pivotal part in the team’s Super Bowl victory over the Patriots, 41–33, at the end of the 2017 campaign. In addition to setting a new record for all Eagles receivers with four grabs for 100 yards and a touchdown, Clement also took the snap for the team’s famed Philly Special on fourth-and-goal, which saw quarterback Nick Foles complete a touchdown ball.

His rookie year of 2017, when he caught 10 passes for 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns and ran for 321 rushing yards and four touchdowns, is his greatest season to date. Clement had 163 carries for 655 rushing yards and seven touchdowns over his four seasons in Philadelphia. He also had 48 receptions for 423 receiving yards and three scores.
