Jim Harbaugh of Michigan has been offered a $125 million contract extension, but there’s an NFL twist: source

Throughout the season, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh has garnered attention primarily because of the team’s success in the College Football Playoffs, in spite of various scandals.

However, since he parted ties with the San Francisco 49ers after the 2014 season, Harbaugh’s name has come up as a possible head coaching candidate in the NFL. Since assuming leadership at Michigan in late December 2014, he has had a prosperous stint.

He appears to be weighing a crucial decision as the 2023 season comes to an end.

Harbaugh was offered a 10-year, $125 million contract extension to stay with Michigan, the NFL Network reported Sunday. But the deal reportedly comes with an NFL twist. He would agree to hold off on entertaining or accepting an NFL job until after the 2024 season.

The NFL Network reported that the deal would only be for one season. His current deal runs through 2026 and he could jump if he wanted to.

Given the number of coaches that have been dismissed in the middle of the season, there are currently several head coaching positions available in the NFL. After Week 18 concludes, there might also be exciting career opportunities available.

In the last two hiring rounds, Harbaugh had interviews with the Minnesota Vikings and the Denver Broncos, respectively. The Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, and Las Vegas Raiders all have openings in the upcoming season, and Harbaugh might be the person to help them all improve.

Harbaugh is currently getting Michigan ready for their semifinal College Football Playoff matchup with Alabama.
