A standout running back for Florida State undergoes season-ending surgery
In the Orange Bowl, the top four rushers for the Seminoles won’t be there.
A number of players have left Florida State’s running back room since the regular season and ACC Championship ended. When the Seminoles play in the Orange Bowl, the unit will appear entirely different because Trey Benson (NFL), Rodney Hill, and CJ Campbell are no longer on the team.
On Saturday, at least one more running back will be absent from the starting lineup. A representative for FSU has notified NoleGameday that redshirt junior Lawrance Toafili will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to surgery. As a result, five of the top six rushers and the top four rushers for the Seminoles will be absent in South Florida.
Toafili was the leading remaining rusher on the team after rushing 69 times for 463 yards with four touchdowns on the ground during the season. He also caught 21 passes for 186 yards and another score. Toafili was named the MVP of the ACC Championship after rushing 10 ten times for a career-high 118 yards and the lone touchdown of the game.
With Toafili recovering from his injury, redshirt junior Caziah Holmes and redshirt junior Ja’Khi Douglas were listed as the two starters at running back. True freshman Samuel Singleton and redshirt sophomore Joshua Burrell are the primary backups.
