Details: Commanders Add Jamison Crowder to the Active Roster
After being promoted from the practice squad during the first game of the season, Jamison Crowder is joining the Washington Commanders again on the active roster.

There is a change to the Washington Commanders’ active roster.

The Commanders have added veteran wide receiver Jamison Crowder to their active roster, according to sources.

Crowder, 30, helped the Washington football team defeat the Arizona Cardinals 20–16 on Sunday by returning three punts.

He spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Washington football team after being selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Since then, he’s bounced around the league playing for the New York Jets (2019-21) and Buffalo Bills (2022).

In March, he signed with the NFC East rival New York Giants, but was part of the team’s final roster cuts to shrink to its 53-man roster.

Crowder played in just four games last season after breaking his ankle. He managed to catch just six passes for 60 yards.

Now, Crowder appears to be looking for a final lifeline to keep his NFL career going. He may not be the kind of player he once was during his first Washington stint, but there still could be some gas left in the tank.

Now with the Commanders, he’ll provide a veteran presence for a young Sam Howell as he navigates his first season as Washington’s starting quarterback.

Crowder is mostly expected to help in the return game, where Washington might benefit with an additional weapon on special teams.

Crowder and the Commanders are hoping to go 2-0 next week when they visit the Denver Broncos. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m.

Commanders agree to a four-year, $90 million contract with DT Daron Payne.

Daron Payne, a defensive tackle with the Commanders, was the first player in 2023 to receive a franchise tag. He is also the first member of that group to sign a new contract.

According to sources, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport claimed on Sunday that Washington is signing Payne to a four-year, $90 million contract with a $28 million signing bonus, $45 million fully guaranteed, and $60 million in total guarantees.

According to Over The Cap, Payne’s massive contract places him second only to Aaron Donald in terms of total worth among interior linemen; this price point is commensurate with his exceptional performance during a contract year.

Rather of accepting an extension, the team exercised Payne’s fifth-year option prior to the 2022 season, but he went on to make his first Pro Bowl and achieve other career highs. After racking up 14.5 sacks in his prior four campaigns, he recorded 11.5 sacks, fourth-most among interior defensive linemen.

He also had career highs in tackles (64), tackles for loss (18), quarterback hits (20), and pass deflections (five).

In addition to continuing to be a threat alongside teammate Pro Bowl DT Jonathan Allen, Payne’s long-term contract extension is expected to give Washington stability at the position.

Payne, who is 26 years old, joined the Commanders as the No. 13 overall pick in 2018 and has since participated in 81 of 82 games that have been scheduled.

He has demonstrated his superiority on the field, and the Commanders have signed him for a further four years after he was free to do so for 55 games in a row.
