Jarrod Wade, Collingwood’s Head of High Performance, has issued an Injury Update ahead of the Toyota AFL Grand Final versus Brisbane in 2023.

Taylor Adams, a midfielder, will be evaluated this week after suffering a hamstring injury during a match simulation ahead of the Preliminary Final.

The very best of Taylor Adams

“He’s up to about 85 to 90 percent running speed, so clocking in at a pretty good speed and we know now that the progressions from 90 to 100 percent have got to occur before game day,” Wade said.

“You’ll see him in some training early in the week, and we’ll give him every opportunity toward the end of the week to ensure we clear that speed.”

We’re going to tick every box with him before the game, so that if he is fit and available to play that we know he is going to be good to go and not take any risk from that point of view.

“We’re not saving anything in the tank from a training point of view, we’re going to make sure we clear him during the week, at the moment he’s progressing really well, we’re just going to have to wait and see where that lands come Thursday’s main training session.

After kicking two crucial goals in Collingwood’s Preliminary Final victory, Daniel McStay will miss the Grand Final through a medial ligament injury to his knee.

“It’s medial ligament injury somewhere between that grade two and grade three mark, similar to Steele Sidebottom earlier in the year and Darcy Cameron,” said Wade.

His return period is approximately six to eight weeks, which clearly puts us in the off-season. It will have no effect on his off-season training; he’ll be able to return back to running in about a month and complete a really successful off-season, and we don’t expect any problems leading up to the pre-season.

“It won’t require any surgery, it’s a standard process which we’ve done before.”

After fracturing his arm during the VFL Elimination Final, Ash Johnson has begun running. In preparation for the upcoming season, the forward is undergoing a workout program.

Will Kelly is back to running and lifting weights after having wrist surgery, as he prepares for off-season and 2024 pre-season training programs.
