After being hit by a car, which then slammed into a house, two persons were killed and a third was critically injured.
At before 8 a.m. on Sunday, police were called to Gosford Street in Coventry city center after reports of three persons being gravely hurt.
According to Coventry Live, the vehicle struck a 44-year-old pedestrian before striking a cyclist on Woodway Lane in Walsgrave shortly afterwards.
Both victims were brought to intensive care but died subsequently. A second pedestrian was hit in the city center and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Officers from the force’s drone team and dog unit were called to search for the male suspect, who reportedly dashed from the scene after the car collided with a house. A 33-year-old man was located at about 9am and is being questioned in connection with the collisions, police said.
Several roads in the area were closed on Sunday afternoon as the investigation continued.
Supt Ronan Tyrer, from Coventry local policing area, said: “We have now informed the families of all those involved in today’s tragic incidents and our thoughts remain firmly with them at this truly devastating time.
“We are still in the very early stages of our investigations and we have several scenes across Coventry, which also means that some roads will be closed for a considerable time.
“We are also searching CCTV and making inquiries and would appeal to anyone who has any information that could help our investigations to contact us at their earliest opportunity.”
“It’s believed that the car was involved in several collisions before colliding into a house on Beckbury Road [in Walsgrave],” a West Midlands police spokesperson told local media earlier on Sunday.
“Officers were called to search for the suspect after a man fled the scene, including the drones team and dog unit.”
