Injuries to Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel for the 49ers vs. Browns
In a highly anticipated Week 6 inter-conference matchup, the Cleveland Browns will visit the San Francisco 49ers at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Niners played without starter linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who is out with a hamstring injury.
Randy Gregory, the 49ers’ newly acquired pass rusher, is playing for the first time since joining the team.
The 49ers’ in-game injury updates are listed below.
Trent Williams went down late in the first quarter after Browns defensive tackle Shelby Harris rolled up on his right ankle. The offensive lineman was able to walk to the sideline but did so with a noticeable limp.
The 49ers announced Williams as questionable to return, but he re-entered the game during the team’s next offensive series.
Deebo Samuel (shoulder) is out.
Late in the first quarter, the 49ers training staff evaluated Deebo Samuel on the sideline. The wide receiver is questionable to return due to a shoulder injury, according to the organization. Samuel later exited the field and went to the locker room for additional examination.
Samuel has been ruled out of the game. According to Pro Football Talk, the X-rays on the receiver’s shoulder were negative. He will still get an MRI to establish the extent of his damage.
Christian McCaffrey (RB) (oblique, doubtful)
Christian McCaffrey was on the sideline in the third quarter with an oblique injury. He is unlikely to return to the game. Elijah Mitchell took his spot at running back.
McCaffrey briefly returned to the game late in the third quarter but was forced to leave after one play. He then went to the locker room. McCaffrey was later ruled out for the rest of the game by the 49ers.
