‘It’s the same old story.’ More injuries on the West Coast as a trio is ruled out

The West Coast Eagles’ injury issue has worsened after three players were injured in the first half against Collingwood.

West Coast veteran Shannon Hurn is one of three players already ruled out with injury against Collingwood.

West Coast’s injury difficulties continued, with Connor West the first player to go down in the first quarter, despite having 13 players on their injured list entering into Saturday’s encounter with the Magpies.

When Magpie Beau McCreery knocked Elijah Hewett off the ball, West’s legs became tangled up in a friendly fire exchange.

Hewett collided with West’s lower legs, causing the midfielder to hobble off the field after only nine minutes.

“That’s unfortunate – there’s nothing you can do about it,” Fox Footy’s Garry Lyon stated.

“Teammate pushed into his lower leg, and a bit of hyperextension on the left leg,” Jason Dunstall explained.

As a result, the Eagles were obliged to use their sub early in the game.
Shortly after, Jordan de Goey chose to bump Hewett as the rookie attempted to send the ball inside the 50-yard line.

“He’s in a bit of trouble, Elijah Hewett,” Dunstall explained.

“He’s copped the arm high from De Goey.”

To make matters worse, veteran Shannon Hurn limped off the field while Hewett was in the concussion protocol having his head assessed.

“Some more West Coast carnage – Shannon Hurn was being assessed just before the quarter time break.” “They were just massaging him and working him through, but he’s clearly gone for the day,” said commentator Matthew Pavlich.

“It’s another hamstring issue for Shannon Hurn and the Eagles.”

For the Eagles, it’s the “same old story,” according to Adam Papalia, with “more and more injury carnage.”

“Something has to give, don’t they?” Dunstall explained.

“They must change the water on the West Coast.”

“What exactly is going on?” This is absurd.”

Lyon expressed “no joy” at watching someone like Hurn iced up on the bench early in the second quarter.

“For a team who is down and as low as they are, to have this happen in the space of a quarter and a bit again, it’s incredible,” that’s what he stated.

After failing his concussion test, Hewett was ruled out of the game.

The injury devastation left the team with only two fit players on the bench – a “ugly” sight comparable to their terrible health hit against Fremantle back in 3.

West Coast suffered injuries to Jeremy McGovern, Luke Shuey, Jamie Cripps, Liam Ryan, and Campbell Chesser on that day, all before the final term.
