Javonte Williams Injuries
On Sunday, Williams suffered a hip injury. While it’s unknown when the third-year running back was hurt, the Broncos first stated he’s questionable to return in Week 4.
Williams’ situation worsened near the start of the third quarter, when Denver officially ruled him out for the rest of the game.
As ESPN reported after the game, Williams just suffered a hip flexor strain. is “not expected to miss much if any time.”
Williams, a 2021 second-round pick, tore his ACL, LCL, and posterolateral corner in Week 4 of the 2022 season. Despite earlier predictions that he might not be ready for the start of the 2023 season, Williams rehabbed during the offseason and was ready for Week 1.
Before leaving, the 23-year-old had two carries for no yards. Williams gained 138 yards on 36 attempts without scoring in the first three games of the season.
Denver knew it needed a running back to complement Williams and signed former Cincinnati Bengals running back Samaje Perine to a two-year, $7 million contract this offseason. If Williams is out for an extended period of time, he will be the Broncos’ starting running back.
The Broncos’ roster also includes undrafted rookie free agent Jaleel McLaughlin and NFL veteran Dwayne Washington. McLaughlin has had two carries in today’s game, while Washington has not had a single attempt.
