CARLTON BOARD MEMBER LEAVES AS FOCUS ON BLUES INTENSIFIES
Carlton has issued a statement addressing Craig Mathieson’s departure.
The Carlton Football Club has accepted Director Craig Mathieson’s retirement, who has served on the Carlton Board since 2012.
Mathieson decided to quit after 11 years as a Director, supervising the Club’s finance and audit responsibilities.
Carlton President Luke Sayers expressed gratitude to Mathieson for his service at the Club.
“We accept Craig’s decision to resign from his role as a Club director and thank him for all he has contributed to the Blues across 11 years of service.”
Mathieson’s position as a Director would have become vacant at the end of 2024 if he had served his maximum term under the constitution, and the Club will now seek advice from its Independent Nominations Committee to begin a thorough search for a Director replacement, based on a needs analysis of Board requirements and relevant skill sets.

Craig Mathieson, a Carlton board member, is likely to quit this week.
Mathieson has been a director since 2012 and was one of several board members who backed president Luke Sayers’ push for Ross Lyon to take over as senior coach in 2021 after David Teague retired.
He is the nephew of Bruce Mathieson, who recently spoke out against the club in an interview with The Herald Sun.
Mathieson’s exit, which may happen as soon as Monday, will open up a space on the roster as the emphasis shifts to the Blues, who have lost six of their last seven games.
His departure comes just over a year after he would have had to leave out anyway under Carlton’s constitution, which restricts directors’ mandates to 12 years or four consecutive three-year stints.

While head coach Michael Voss is under contract until the end of 2024, there is substantial dissatisfaction among supporters over the club’s current situation.
Carlton has not reached the finals since 2013, and the club began a full-scale rebuild in 2015.
Since then, they’ve fired Brendon Bolton and Teague, and they missed the playoffs last year due to a low percentage.
According to the club’s constitution, Sayers will stand down as president and off the board at the end of next year.
