‘He’s lost games,’ says AFL 360 host, referring to star forward’s’major issue’ following a seven-year contract call.

If Carlton spearhead Harry McKay is unable to improve his goalkicking, AFL 360 co-host Mark Robinson feels he could “turn out to be one of the worst long-term signings” the Blues have made.

McKay’s inconsistency in front of goal has been a focal point of the Blues’ troubles in 2023, with the team now lying outside the top eight with a game against Collingwood this week.

At the end of 2022, the 25-year-old signed a seven-year contract extension with Carlton, keeping him to the club until at least the end of 2030.

“Harry McKay has to fix himself because Carlton can’t have a player kicking the ball like that for the next seven bloody years.” It either turn out to be one of the worst long-term signings they’ve ever made, or Harry will have to overcome these mental demons, and he’ll be paid to do so. He must repair it.

“It is true that he has lost games for Carlton. Other players have performed poorly, but Harry has had the potential to win football games with the ball in his hands and has failed to do so.

“That hurts Carlton, that hurts Vossy, that helps pour the scorn and the vitriol and the pointing of fingers at Michael Voss and the administrators of the club.”

The spotlight has been on Voss and the club’s administrators, but Robinson believes Carlton must bear some of the blame.

“Jacob Weitering has not been the player that he has in recent years,” Robinson stated.

So, one of the best centre-half backs in the league is not the player he was, one of the best forwards as voted in the league can’t kick goals and Patrick Cripps, their best player and one of the best players in the comp, he’s not playing at the level that we’re accustomed to. “
