Essendon star Mason Redman has turned his back on free agency, signing a new five-year deal with the club until the end of 2028.
The native South Australian was one of the most sought-after players on the market including strong interest from the Crows, but the 25-year old has now committed his future to the Bombers in a huge coup for Brad Scott’s side.
With Redman’s signature now locked away, Essendon will turn its attention to re-signing fellow free agent Darcy Parish as a key priority.
Redman, who just signed a new contract, expressed his excitement at the prospect of remaining a Bomber for at least another five seasons.
“I’ve absolutely loved my eight years at the Bombers but it’s the potential of this group that excites me the most,” Redman stated.
“Our team has made tremendous progress this year, but we recognize that we still have a long way to go. We are all committed to working hard to ensure that we are all pushing each other to do whatever we can to achieve ultimate success.”
“I couldn’t be more impressed with the football club this year and the atmosphere we’re attempting to create.” I believe our club’s success is just around the corner.”
Redman has elevated his game in recent seasons to become an essential member of Essendon’s back six, placing fourth in the club’s best and fairest last year.
He’s maintained his outstanding form this season, averaging a career-high 22.3 disposals, 6.2 marks, and 470 yards gained while appearing in all 18 games for Scott.
“We are overjoyed that Mason will remain in red and black for the next five years.” “He is such an important player for us and has developed into a true team leader,” Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro said.
“His spirit and presence around the club has an impact on his teammates.” Mason is the perfect professional and true club person, dedicated to not just better himself but also doing everything in his power to help his teammates grow.
“He has made it clear that he believes in what we’re doing here at the Bombers and our vision for the club.”
Mason is a popular teammate who is well-liked by his teammates and appreciated by fans. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and we can’t wait to watch him develop as a player and a person in the future years.”
