‘Investigation’ – Coventry City boss gives update on Jamie Allen heart worry Coventry City injury news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues boss Mark Robins admits midfielder needs more tests before stepping up fitness training
Jamie Allen is still a long way from returning to Coventry City, with the player requiring additional studies into the heart scare that kept him out of pre-season.
The high-energy midfielder was hospitalized this summer with pericarditis (inflammation around the heart), and the source of the major health issue is yet unknown.
Allen, who was a mainstay for the Sky Blues last season, appearing in 42 games and scoring seven goals, came to Ryton three weeks later than the rest of the squad and hasn’t played in any pre-season friendlies due to training in the gym.
Manager Mark Robins provided an update on the player’s condition and development, telling CoventryLive: “Jamie is trying to get back to feeling well enough to commit to a full training session.” But he has to tick boxes first, and he isn’t ticked enough to return to the grass.
“I imagine he’ll be a little frustrated, but these things can play on your mind as well, and once he’s settled down and had a little more time with maybe a little more investigation.”
“In the end, he didn’t know what was going on.” You can take appropriate action if you know what is causing the problem. We’re still doing investigations, so once they’re through, we’ll know how swiftly we can move him on.”
City begin their new Championship season against Leicester on Sunday, and Allen is clearly at least a month behind the rest of the team in terms of health.

Dabo was then subjected to sickening racist abuse online, which Coventry strongly condemned in a statement.
“The messages are abhorrent,” the club declared in a statement. Racism has no place in our culture, we are certain. The club will collaborate with the PFA, EFL, and police to ban and prosecute anyone discovered to have communicated racist texts.”
