Harry McKay suffered a significant knee injury during Carlton’s 50-point victory over Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

McKay hobbled off the field in the first quarter and was immediately substituted out of the game.

What is the outlook for Harry McKay’s injury?
McKay will be out for six to eight weeks after surgery to clear out his knee, according to scans released on Monday.

The big forward has a history of knee problems, including a meniscus rupture in 2022 that kept him out for about a month.

His most recent injury, though, is unrelated to his meniscus rupture from last season.

What caused Harry McKay’s knee injury?

McKay lost his balance and landed awkwardly on the Marvel Stadium field halfway through the first quarter after going up for a marking contest.

McKay was assisted off the field by trainers and did not return for the remainder of the game.

As McKay’s replacement, substitute Paddy Dow was forced into the game right away.

When asked about McKay’s injury during halftime on Fox Footy, Blues coach Michael Voss was upbeat.

“I believe he is well. “However, you always take your time assessing it on Monday,” Voss explained.

“We weren’t prepared to take any further risks on it, so we subbed him out.”

How might Harry McKay’s possible absence affect Carlton?

The Blues demonstrated their ability to function without McKay by cruising to a 50-point win against Port Adelaide without a goal from their former Coleman Medal winner.

Charlie Curnow, who won the Coleman Medal last season and booted three goals against the Power, would become the forward line’s lone target.

Jack Silvagni scored four goals against Port Adelaide and would be asked to step up as well.

Tom De Koning is another option up front, especially when Mark Pittonet returns from injury.

Small attackers Jesse Motlop (four goals vs Port Adelaide), Jack Martin, and Matthew Owies (once healthy) can all contribute to the attack.
