West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek need reconstructive surgery after receiving a terrible kick to the face against Everton after he was hit by the full force of Toffees forward Salomon Rondon’s studs as they competed for the ball.

The Czech Republic international was left with terrible cuts around his eye and on his nose and mouth following the incident during West Ham’s 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

But Soucek has recovered and is back in training ahead of his team’s Europa League match against Genk on Thursday night.

“Tomas is OK,” declared West Ham manager David Moyes. “He’s been a little achy. Stitches were placed in his lip, cheek, and nose. He’s all right.

“I don’t believe his injuries are a reason not to play him.” It’s just a matter of whether we rest him or not. Tomas is eager to participate.

“He had his lip stitched again by a plastic surgeon because he had it done after the game.” He’s also got stitches on his nose and cheek.

“He’s all right. ‘Look at my brows,’ I told him. My brows have been sewn from my years as a centre-half, so he’ll need a few more stitches before reaching this level.”

Aside from the cuts and bruises, West Ham welcome the Belgian side in good form, having won two of their first two games, putting them top of Group H and favorites to advance to the knockout stage.

“I’m having a great time with it.” “We’re a very happy club right now,” remarked Moyes.

Everyone is enjoying the league games and Europe, and I must tell that I am thoroughly enjoying my European adventure.

“I want the players to succeed.” It would be fantastic if we could finish first in the group, but for the time being, the key goal is to make it through.”

Nikola Vlasic of Croatia is expected to participate as he looks for his first goal since coming from CSKA Moscow in the summer.

The 24-year-old has only made one Premier League start so far, but he says, “I see it as an opportunity.” I knew the players they had when I arrived, and I knew there would be fierce competition.

“Of course, I have faith in the manager. He led me here because he knows what is best for me. He is cognizant of the need for adaptation, especially in a squad like this one. He is the most knowledgeable about how much I will play.”
