Crystal Palace have confirmed a double injury blow before of their match against Manchester United.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has provided an update on Dean Henderson ahead of Saturday’s match against Manchester United.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that goalkeeper Dean Henderson and attacker Odsonne Edouard will miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Henderson, who moved from M16 to Selhurst Park in the closing days of the summer transfer window, was forced off in the first half of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash between the two clubs at Old Trafford with a suspected thigh injury. The Palace debutant goalkeeper was pulled off after only 19 minutes and replaced by Sam Johnstone.
The shot-stopper, who made 29 appearances for United, had an initial scan to determine the seriousness of the injury, but will need another one next week. As a result, the former Nottingham Forest loanee’s availability is now unknown.
Hodgson told the journalists during his pre-match press conference on Friday: “He’s had a scan.” I’m sorry to say that the initial scan was not very positive, but he gets another scan in a week and maybe we’ll be lucky and see somewhat less damage than we observed in the first one, but it didn’t look good.”
Palace will also have to make do with Frenchman Edouard, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Londoners’ trip to Old Trafford earlier this week. The former Celtic man has scored five goals and started every Premier League game this season, illustrating how much of a loss he is.
“He’s only missed one game, and that was a Carabao Cup game,” Hodgson stated. “This is his first missed league game.”
“I don’t have any concerns about him continuing his good start or doing what he’s been doing when he returns to the team, but this game has come just a little bit too soon, and we can’t risk reactivating his minor muscle injury and exacerbating it.” That was the only option available.
“It’s a tough decision to take when you need players, but I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if we’d have thrown him into this game not 100 percent ready, and then find he’s missing for several [games] because the muscle injury, which at the moment is possible for us to handle, suddenly becomes one of those injuries which puts people on the sidelines for up to a month.”
Other players on the bench include Jefferson Lerma, Michael Olise, and Matheus Franca.
