Michael Olise “experiences new setback in injury recovery”
According to reports, Michael Olise’s hamstring injury, which has kept him out of action thus far this season, has gotten worse.
The young French wide player has been out since tearing his hamstring while on duty at the Euro Under-21s in the summer.
After missing the first five games for Crystal Palace, it was thought he may soon play again for the Eagles.
The Evening Standard asserts that Olise, however, has experienced a serious setback and will now be away for a protracted period of time.
According to the report, Roy Hodgson won’t have the 21-year-old back until at least the end of the international break in October.
In his absence, Palace has had a respectable start, scoring seven points from their first five games, including victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United.
However, losing the Player of the Year from the previous year is a major loss, especially in light of Olise’s 11 assists in the Premier League.
Because of those stats, England’s top players started to swarm, and even Hodgson acknowledged over the summer that it would be very challenging for the team to keep the player.
It appeared as though Olise would be leaving after Chelsea triggered his £35 million release clause, but in a shocking U-turn, Palace were able to sign him to a new contract.
Should Olise return to fitness and perform well on the field, the release clause will no longer apply, which might result in an even higher transfer cost for him next summer.
The winger will temporarily miss Palace’s matches against Fulham, Manchester United in both the league and cup, and Nottingham Forest.
The return of manager Hodgson to the sidelines for the weekend match at Craven Cottage is good news for the Palace supporters.
The 76-year-old fell unwell the morning of their weekend 3-1 loss to Aston Villa, but he has since recovered and is back in training. He will be in the dugout on Saturday.
Temporary manager Paddy McCarthy led them on their trip to Villa Park, where they lost after falling behind early in the second half to three goals surrendered by Palace.
