Although Josh Sargent’s ankle surgery proved successful, the Norwich City striker will be out for three to four months.
In the 4-0 romp against Huddersfield, the US international striker injured ankle ligaments while scoring his third Championship goal in five games.

Sargent twisted his ankle when blocking an initial clearance from Terriers goalkeeper Lee Nicholls before pounced on the rebound and tumbling to the ground.

But, ahead of Stoke City’s weekend visit to Carrow Road, head coach David Wagner gave a promising post-op update at Colney.

“We saw Josh for the first time in the building after his operation on Wednesday. “That looks good,” he said.

“Obviously, I’ve spoken with him, and he no longer requires painkillers, which is good news.” He’ll be out of sutures next week, which is the next step, and the timetable we’ve established – Christmas, early January – is still the one we’re hoping for.

So far, everything has gone swimmingly. But now, clearly, it’s all about healing, followed by thorough rehab and a proper build-up of his fitness.”

Marcelino Nunez will be out for a few weeks as the Canaries investigate the seriousness of the ankle injury he received while on international duty with Chile.

However, there was good news for wide receivers Borja Sainz and Onel Hernandez. Sainz has yet to play for the club since joining in the summer after injuring ankle ligaments early in preseason, while Hernandez has missed the last four games due to a fractured hand.

Longer-term absentees include Jacob Sorensen (pelvic surgery) and Grant Hanley (Achilles).

“Borja had two days of preseason before getting injured.” “Now he’s had a full week with the Under-21s and a full week with us,” Wagner explained. “I think it makes sense for him to start in the under-21s while he works on his fitness.” But Onel is back and available, Borja is back in training, Adam Forshaw, (Danny) Batth, and now (Hwang) Ui-Jo are all accessible.
“Lunghi (Jacob Sorensen) takes a little longer. He should be back in training in a week or two. Then only Nacho and Grant would be missed.”
